The Power of RF Microneedling with PRP Combination Treatments

Advanced RF (Radiofrequency) Microneedling with PRP — A.K.A. The "Vampire Facial" combines microneedling (also known as collagen-induction therapy) with topical application of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) derived from your own blood. Benefits include reduced fine lines and wrinkles, smoother and tighter skin, improved hyperpigmentation and scarring, and improved efficacy of skin care products. Advanced RF Microneedling with PRP provides you with all of the benefits of microneedling while also amplifying results and lessens the amount of healing time.

RF Microneedling and PRP: A Dynamic Duo for Skin Rejuvenation

RF Microneedling, a procedure that involves the use of fine needles to stimulate collagen production, gets a boost when paired with PRP. PRP, derived from the patient's own blood, is rich in platelets, which play a crucial role in wound healing and tissue repair.

"In RF Microneedling, we create a controlled, superficial injury to the skin using tiny micro-needles, which triggers a rapid healing response to "repair the damage" & flood the area with collagen. Microneedling does not damage the epidermis." Says Haley, a licensed esthetician with Retuva Medical Spa in Columbia, Missouri.

PRP contains a high concentration of platelets, growth factors, and active proteins from your own blood. "When it is added to your skin during microneedling, it kick-starts the collagen production process! Microneedling can be done with peptide gel, hyaluronic acid serum, or in the case of the "vampire facial," with platelet-rich plasma. PRP is the "secret sauce" to the facial", says Haley

Benefits of RF Microneedling with PRP

Microneedling with PRP has a few main benefits that make it a standout treatment you may want to try if you're looking to address certain concerns and/or enhance your glow.

  • It's a minimally invasive treatment.
  • It evens out skin tone.
  • It involves little to no downtime (one to six days).
  • It can help reduce the appearance of enlarged pores, acne scars, uneven skin tone, fine lines and wrinkles, sunspots, and stretch marks.

"The natural capacity of the skin to produce collagen decreases with age due to various other factors," Haley says,  "That's why I think anyone can benefit from microneedling (especially with PRP) to improve the overall tone, vitality, and glow of their skin."

Notice the separated PRP (clear, yellow fluid), red blood cells, and white blood cells. It's often referred to as "liquid gold." says Haley.

What to Expect

Before your initial microneedling session, we will discuss any existing health conditions or medications that might potentially contraindicate receiving a PRP microneedling session. Following a thorough review of your paperwork, we will address your skincare concerns and goals, ensuring that you receive the optimal benefits from your service with Retuva.

Post-consultation and the creation of a customized skincare plan tailored to your needs, we initiate the process by double cleansing your face to prepare the skin for the microneedling procedure. Subsequently, a topical numbing cream is applied for approximately 20 minutes to enhance your comfort during the procedure. While the numbing cream takes effect, we draw a vial of blood for the PRP procedure. This blood is then processed using a centrifuge, a high-speed device that separates blood cells from plasma cells.

Upon completion of the numbing process, we remove the cream, double cleanse once again, and initiate the microneedling procedure. The entire process typically lasts around 40 minutes, contingent on the treated area's size. While the most common areas are the face, neck, décolleté, and abdomen, microneedling can also be performed on other body parts.

During the blood collection process, you'll observe the separated PRP, often referred to as "liquid gold," which includes clear, yellow fluid, red blood cells, and white blood cells. The PRP is then activated using a small amount of calcium chloride solution, resulting in a new solution called PRF (platelet-rich fibrin). This PRF solution is applied to the patient's face and neck before employing microneedles with various needle pen lengths, depending on the treated area.

After the facial treatment, we offer an optional addition of 20 minutes of LED therapy to further boost collagen production and expedite the wound healing process.

What Should You Do After a PRP Facial?

After a PRP facial, you can expect some degree of redness, swelling, and minor skin sensitivity. These effects are usually temporary and should go away in a few days. You may want to avoid intense activity or sun exposure for about 2-3 days post-treatment, allowing any redness or swelling to diminish.

Makeup should be avoided immediately after the procedure, and it's recommended to follow the post-treatment care instructions provided by the medical professional.

  • Avoid touching your face for at least 6 hours.
  • Avoid applying makeup on your face until the next day.
  • Take special care not to irritate your skin by touching it. If you need to touch your face, wash your hands with soap and water.
  • Don't rub the skin, especially when washing and drying your face.
  • Use pain relievers like ibuprofen and acetaminophen to reduce any discomfort after the treatment. Especially if you notice pain or swelling lasting longer than 24 hours.
  • You can apply cold compresses wrapped in a clean, dry towel to help reduce swelling and discomfort as well.
  • Plan to sleep on your back with your face slightly elevated for at least two days after your treatment.
  • You should also avoid using exfoliating facial cleansers for about three days or 72 hours.
